History

The company was founded in 1848 by Johann Christian Wacker as a small blacksmith in Dresden and started in 1875 with industrial production. In 1930, the engineers developed the high frequency technology for internal vibrators. At the same time, the first electric rammer is developed and produced, an innovation in concrete and soil compaction.

This development was interrupted at the end of world war II because of the total loss of the facility. In 1945, the headquarter was moved to Munich and the business went on. The first subsidiary was founded in Hartforf (Wisconsin, USA) in 1957, which later moved to Milwaukee, where today a production and logistic facility is located. Later on, the company expanded its international presence and today has over 30 affiliates and more than 180 sales and services offices.

The reorganization of the company from a German GmbH to Wacker Neuson Construction Equipment AG took place in 2002. Until 2005 the company developed, produced and sold just smaller construction equipment (light equipment) up to 3 tons in the strategic business fields Concrete technology, Soil and Asphalt Compaction, Demolition and Utility. With the acquisition of Weidemann GmbH in 2005 the company moved into the market of compact equipment and farming branch. The Swiss company Drillfix AG and Ground Heater Inc. were bought in 2006.

Wacker Neuson SE was floated on the German Stock Exchange in May 2007 and is now listed in the SDAX.

At October, 31st 2007 the merger with Neuson Kramer Baumaschinen AG (Linz, Austria) took place. The Neuson Kramer Baumaschinen GmbH originally created in 2001 by the merger of Neuson Baumaschinen GmbH and the Kramer-Werke GmbH.
